I'm Ruth George, and if there's one thing my family and friends unanimously agree on, it's my love of a good chat. As the youngest of seven children, some of my fondest childhood memories revolve around the lively gatherings at the table. Whether with family, friends, or the occasional unexpected guest, everyone always found a warm welcome in our home.

The inspiration behind Stoeps (pronounced “Stoops”) arose from a simple question: In today's fast-paced world filled with endless tasks and screens, how can we reclaim precious moments around the table? How can we transform it into a space where people want to slow down, linger for hours, sharing meals, laughter and stories?

Our solution began with reinventing the tablecloth to make it far from ordinary. We combined classic patterns with vibrant and bold colours. Not only do they look fabulous, but they are practical too, thanks to our signature weighted hem.

The success of our weighted hem tablecloths fuelled our passion to create more products, turning every meal into a celebration and every gathering into a cherished memory. Our collection expanded to include napkins, oversized weighted food covers (keeping pesky flies at bay) and our latest addition—linen trestle tablecloths paired with matching linen napkins, bidding farewell to unsightly trestle table legs.

No Stoeps tale is complete without a glimpse into the origins of our name and logo. You might be wondering how a water buffalo fits into the world of table linen and accessories. Well, in our case, it plays a significant role. During our 13-year stint in Hong Kong, we frequented The Stoep, a delightful South African restaurant on Lantau Island. Post-lunch, we'd relax on the beach, occasionally witnessing water buffaloes leisurely strolling by, hence the adorable creature gracing our logo. This place held special meaning for our family, offering a retreat from the city's chaos and a chance to savour moments with both old and new friends. Naturally, we bestowed upon it the Aussie nickname, Stoeps, making it the perfect choice for our business.
